Ron owns the rat Scabbers, who later turns out to actually be Peter Pettigrew in disguise. He also becomes close to one of the Potters other friends, werewolf Remus Lupin.
In this installment he learns of the existence of his godfather, Sirius Black, and also how his parents were betrayed to Lord Voldemort. Harry is the protagonist of this novel, and of the series in general. This year Harry is up against murderer Sirius Black, and also learns more about his father's past.
